The current state of society paints an alarming picture for autistic people:
- a low health-related quality of life
- a high risk of becoming a victim of bullying, exploitation and/or violence
- a high risk of physical and mental illnesses
- a greatly increased risk of early death
- a high risk of committing suicide
And specifically in the area of sexuality and partnership :
- a high risk of becoming a victim of physical or sexual abuse
In order to understand these risks and thereby minimize them and successfully treat existing illnesses, autism theory with its understanding of autism as a vulnerability (as opposed to an incurable disease) is necessary.
